Some very sweet readers have asked how best they can help an independent author launching a book, in this case Broken Tablet. Apparently a few folks even refrained from purchasing the book while it was priced at $0.99 because they (correctly!) surmised that I don’t get much from that.

Here’s what you can do to help:

Tell others. Word-of-mouth is the single biggest success factor for a new indy author.

Post on social media. Just mentioning that this book exists is great, but including a concrete tidbit that you liked or that stood out is even better.

Of course buying the book helps. The way pricing washes out, it’s about the same to me whether you purchase the paperback for $13.99, the Kindle version for $3.49, or read for free with Kindle Unlimited or Amazon Prime. So don’t feel like you have to read it in a certain way for my benefit. Read in whatever way is most comfortable for you.

Leave a thoughtful review, from the point-of-view of potential readers seeking information that will help them make a purchase decision.

Mark helpful reviews as “helpful” and unhelpful reviews as “Not Helpful”. Let the creme float to the top.

Send email to the author (really!). Let them know how much you enjoyed it, and what you’re looking forward to in a sequel.

Join the mailing list  to keep on top of future releases from the same author.
